Integrating MapPoint with Access | The Access Man

Integrating MapPoint with Access

Microsoft Access can easily be used to automate MapPoint.

Pretty much anything that you can do in MapPoint you can do via automation from within Access.

This avoids the need to export and import data and means that you can give the system to ordinary users who may not know how to use MapPoint.

MapPoint can either be embedded directly into an Access form or can run as a stand-alone application (e.g. on another monitor).

MapPoint is commonly used for plotting delivery routes or routes for engineers on service visits etc as it has the capability to optimise the routes automatically. It is also often used to visualise data geographically (e.g. customer coverage across the country).

This video demonstrates MapPoint being embedded within an Access form to automatically plot and optimise a route with the ability to set custom start and end points so that the route can start at a depot and end near the drivers house etc.
