Access on Microsoft Surface? | The Access Man

Access on Microsoft Surface?

We were recently asked whether Access will run on the new Microsoft Surface tablet.

Unfortunately the answer is not yet!

The initial tablets will run Windows 8 RT on an ARM processor and will only run Office RT which does not include Access. In any case the Office apps which are available in the Office RT release have no macro or VBA functionality so any Access database would be severely limited as would a large number of business apps that use VBA/macros to integrate with other systems.

The Surface Pro (“due soon” according to Microsoft) which will run Windows 8 Pro and therefore most existing Windows apps looks like the best bet.
